Ethanolic KOH (literally, potassium hydroxide dissolved in ethanol) is a powerful digesting agent. I presume you are extracting some compound from a plant species, perhaps Mentha piperita (peppermint). Ethanolic KOH could be used to extract compounds of interest, digesting cell walls and extracting the essence. What function fulfills the solution of KOH ethanolic for the isolation of the piperina?
What is ethanolic? I know it's been about 8 years since my Chem classes, but ethanol is an alcohol, but I've never heard of ehanolic. KOH, sounds like potassiaum hydroxide? If I remember, the OH bonds to an H from the alcohol to form water, but I forget the rest? Any Chem majors here?
