Would prisons be better with isolation?

Would it be better to put all prisoners in isolation? If not why?Would prisons be better with isolation?
No. Generally speaking, prisoners have to be controlled. But, the most effective way to control them is to take something away. For example, if they are too noisy, take away their tv or phone calls.

If you take everything away, they have nothing to lose. Therefore, they are actually harder to control.Would prisons be better with isolation?
No - it would make them mentally unstable, and that's bad for two reasons. One, there are way more inmates than prison guards, and like one of the previous answerers said, the limited number of guards would have a much more difficult time controlling the population. The most dangerous people are the ones who have lost hope and have become sociopaths. Second, the overwhelming majority of these guys are eventually going to be released back into society. Probably not a good thing to have them MORE messed up than when they went in.
We need MORE prisons WITHOUT the fluff today's prisons are being forced to implement that makes incarceration so easy---it's not much more than an annoyance for the ';hard core'; thug facing prison time.

Prison reform needs prison reform.
Not practical; there are shortages of prisons to begin with so there would hardly be room to put each one in a separate cell.
It isn't cost-effective but a major problem with our prisons is the prison culture which turns out people worse than when they came in.
No

It's not supposed to but pleasant, but do we really need to make it Hell on Earth?
