Christians: Why is your religion consistently used as a base for sexual abuse and isolation?

Just wondering why the Christian religion is consistently used to convince people to join cults, and why Christians seem so open to it?

Examples:

Jonestown, Branch Davidians, Fellowship Friends Renaissance, God's River Ministries, Quadratoquintillia, Opstal etc.....

Christians: Why is your religion consistently used as a base for sexual abuse and isolation?
Christianity is the largest religion in the Western world and therefore contains symbolism that has a widespread recognition. It is therefore the natural choice of cover for unscrupulous people the behaviors of whom have nothing whatsoever to do with Jesus or the doctrines he imparted.Christians: Why is your religion consistently used as a base for sexual abuse and isolation?
Scientology, International Society of Krisna Contiousness, Sun Myung Moon, Sri Bagwan Rajneesh, TM, Elizabeth Claire Prophet, are these Christian cults?

Just because you named bible cults doesn't mean there aren't cults that use the Bagavad Gita, Channeling, Anton Lavey's bible, Sun Myung Moon's writings, etc.

Just being fair and balanced.
You are speaking of a minority of Christians. Most are in what is called the ';mainstream'; and are just as appalled by the cults you mention as you yourself are. Besides, as other answerers have mentioned, there are plenty of screwy, offbeat cults that are not Christian groups as well.
Those that are a part of cults such as the Branch Davidians, are NOT Christian! ANY person or number of persons that claim to be Christian, but DO NOT adhere to God's word, but instead, make up their own religion and cult, are NOT Christians! David Koresh was a blasphemer because he claimed to BE Christ - and we all know he was not! It's the easiest thing in the world for people to do is to claim they're 'Christian', but to make up their own form of Christianity and their OWN laws that contradict the bible and/or have nothing at all to do with God's word, are NOT Christian! I have been a born again Christian for nearly 7 years now and never have I ever believed the Koresh or the Jonestown people were Christian! They're actions proved they're NOT!
This is an extremely small amount ot people in the cults you listed considering 80% of americans are of the Christian faith.

You statement that Christianity is consistently used as a base for sexual abuse and isolation is a lie. You are attacking Christianity based on lies!
We were warned in the Scriptures that wolves would enter in, and even during the Apostle's lifetimes it had begun happening.

Clearly, just because someone can speak well and say the right things, this does not mean for certain they are a real believer.

The ONLY way to prevent being taken in by a cult leader, or the heretical teachings, is to know the doctrines of the Bible. Any thing which goes against what the Bible says is NOT correct, and could lead one down the paths those others you named have taken.
Because these types of organizations prey on the needy, Christianity is known for caring for the needy. No one would care to join an Atheist cult, they have no hope to offer. Misuse of the word of God by the godless, is not indicative of Christianity. But of course being realistic would not be big on your list.
You misunderstood. It is not the Christians, it is the sin man that is camouflaged as Christians. You may understand better if I said: ';Wolves in Sheep clothing.'; I will repeat from words of old, God this is in man, would never allow himself to be adorned in wolf clothing. Remember, to make that statement is to judge even me without knowing me.
Why are you only using Christianity as an example? (Long answer if we go that route)

How is Christianity being used as base for sexual abuse and isolation? Where in the article does it say it was condoned? It says critics call it a cult. I am a critic. And a Christian.

This man is not a true follower of God. The Devil is using him. He is using this man as a tool to achieve what it seems he has achieved with you. Keeping you from God.

That's about like saying that all nonbelievers are abusers. That is an exaggeration and unrealistic accusation. If you are going to make accusations, atleast keep it realistic. These examples are just a small percentage of the christian population throughout the world.
I think it is quite obvious why Satanists should try to pose in the clothes of true Christians. That gives them a better chance of deceiving people.

Just to emphasize - true Christians have nothing to do with the actions you mention.
True, people do often us Christianity as a tool to form cults, but overall it is the few that start the cults, and people who are desperate enough to follow these cults that are the problem.
Same reason that Windows is consistently 'used as a base' for developing computer viruses. Because it is very prevalent, widespread and the best.
All religions have the same problems with cultish off-shoots, especially Islam. So do practical disciplines like medicine, art, and psychology. WC Fields said,';There's a sucker born every minute!';
Where in the world did you hear that? I have been a Christian all my life and have never, ever heard of such a thing.
You get corruption in any religion. All people will be judged in the end. Dont set your standards to be like any pastor or priest, but set them to be like Jesus Christ. and God bless u
Didn't you forget those ones in Arkansas? They were on yahoo.com news yesterday and it was holding a big white cross.

It was men in multiple marriages with underage women. legalized rape
That is not true. That person in your link is evil.
Some people are @ssholes...

Find those in every group..
thats not true....you are thinking of cults....IM MAINSTREAM METHODIST
because ';i love the lord'; is a good cover for them.
There have been times in the Christian church where those who have claimed to follow Christ have done horrible things. They have done these things not because Christ teaches them to, but because they have not listened to the word of God.

this does not mean that Christianity is false anymore than the police force is false because one or two cops did bad things in the name of the law. Instead of looking at the two cops, the whole of the police force, its goals, other cops, and its history of sacrifice and protection must be examined as well. The same as Christianity. It has a great history of helping countless people, establishing orphanages, building shelters, helping famine ravaged countries, and seeking to aid the downtrodden.

If anyone wishes to condemn Christianity because of the failures of its members, then will they also look at its successes and approve of Christianity? It would only be fair to look at the whole of Christian history and more importantly at what the Bible actually teaches, in particular the New Testament, from which Christianity is derived.

Believe in Christianity because Jesus Christ claimed to be God in flesh, died for our sins, rose from the dead, and has given us the New Testament. Believe in Jesus because He performed miracles in front of eyewitnesses and He said that He was the way the truth in a life (John 14:6). Believe Christianity because of who Jesus is, not because of what some so called Christians did in error.

In addition, These Indivdules Like Jone, Koresh, ect. are actually foretold By Jesus.

Mat 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.

Mat 24:23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here [is] Christ, or there; believe [it] not.

Mat 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if [it were] possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

Mat 24:25 Behold, I have told you before.

Now, If you still disgree and or Thumbs Down this, Then You didn't ask the question with an Objective Mind seeking answers like a superior person, But seek to attack out of hatred and Bias and a need to create conflict.
