I was just curious about this :-)PSYCHOLOGISTS: Do only men experience Social Isolation? Or have there been studies done on women, also?
I socially isolated for a year just to see if I could go without social interaction. Now I have trouble being around people. So I wouldn't advise becoming a hermit unless you have to.PSYCHOLOGISTS: Do only men experience Social Isolation? Or have there been studies done on women, also?
ty I didn't realize I looked like a mermaid but ok LOL Report Abuse
No, women have had social isolations as well. Women are intimidated by other women who they think are socially more capable and are more attractive. They start to compare themselves to other women and when they don't think they are good enough, they choose to isolate themselves, dwelling themselves into their work.
oh no, women do too. I did at one point. I chose to isolate myself.

A 55kw compressor needs an isolation switch at what amp rating and what size should the cable be?
3*25 mm cable and you need 110 A fuse
Would prisons be better with isolation?
Would it be better to put all prisoners in isolation? If not why?Would prisons be better with isolation?
No. Generally speaking, prisoners have to be controlled. But, the most effective way to control them is to take something away. For example, if they are too noisy, take away their tv or phone calls.
If you take everything away, they have nothing to lose. Therefore, they are actually harder to control.Would prisons be better with isolation?
No - it would make them mentally unstable, and that's bad for two reasons. One, there are way more inmates than prison guards, and like one of the previous answerers said, the limited number of guards would have a much more difficult time controlling the population. The most dangerous people are the ones who have lost hope and have become sociopaths. Second, the overwhelming majority of these guys are eventually going to be released back into society. Probably not a good thing to have them MORE messed up than when they went in.
We need MORE prisons WITHOUT the fluff today's prisons are being forced to implement that makes incarceration so easy---it's not much more than an annoyance for the ';hard core'; thug facing prison time.
Prison reform needs prison reform.
Not practical; there are shortages of prisons to begin with so there would hardly be room to put each one in a separate cell.
It isn't cost-effective but a major problem with our prisons is the prison culture which turns out people worse than when they came in.
No

What Mechanisms led to genetic isolation?
???????????? please help me.What Mechanisms led to genetic isolation?
I would imagine that genetic isolation belongs to Prezygotic Isolating Mechanism.
To my knowledge, there are 5 main types of isolations in prezygotic isolating Mechanism:
1. Geographic isolation
2. Ecological isolation
3. Behavioral isolation
4. Temporal isolation
5. Mechanical isolation
I've never heard of genetic isolation! It must be a new theory on reproductive isolation?
It makes sense that genetic isolation also belongs to prezygotic isolating mechanism because if genetics are different then the two organisms would be separate species from start, they won't mate together. Thus this is called ';prezygotic isolating mechanism';.What Mechanisms led to genetic isolation?
By genetic isolation, you mean the isolation of a reproducing population's gene pool from other gene pools of the same species, right?
I think this occurs when a population is somehow isolated from the other members of their species. I guess a classic example is the group of turtles, half who live on one side of a forest, half on the other when a major highway gets built through the forest. Since they are unable to cross the highway and interbreed, the two turtle populations become isolated, as do their gene pools. If enough time goes by, the differences in their genetics (due to random variation and any differences in the natural selection pressures each faces) will be great enough that, even if brought back together, the two populations will be unable to interbreed.
Hope this helps. Sorry I am not a biologist. :)

How reproductive or geographic isolation affects speciation?
groups develop new traits to better suit their environment and eventually cant interbreed and a new species is formedHow reproductive or geographic isolation affects speciation?
Both keep populations from breeding and if two populations do not breed with eachother for a period of time there gene pool may change from natural selection and adaption to an environment. For example if two populations are separated after an earthquake by a canyon and one side is dry and the other is more wet. the two popultions with evolve and naturally select traits that are better for the population to adapt. Soon the genepools may be greatly different. After many generations if members of both populations are brought together in a communal neutral environment there is a lower chance they will breed. If mutations occur during the separation then breeding may be impaired due to mismatch of the chromosomes, at this point biological speciation has occurred

Does anyone have information on when Japan ended it's isolation?
It's for a world history project I'm doing in class right now. =)
Thanks.Does anyone have information on when Japan ended it's isolation?
Japan's isolation was ended in 1853 when the U.S. Navy under Commodore Perry sailed into Tokyo Bay and negotiated a trade treaty at gunpoint.

What does the song ';The Sounds of Silence'; convey about the significance of effects of alienation/isolation?
Did you ever think this person's teacher is 52 years old and remembers this assignment?
Hello darkness my old friend, I've come to talk to you again...
This was one of my favorite songs of ALL time as I grew up.. why? Because it spoke to my own loneliness.
Fool, said I, you do not know... silence like a cancer grows...
For myself, not only did I take comfort in knowing that my own isolation was not a unique experience, it helped me express it, understand it, and know that someday I will be free from it.
Maybe that will help some... I hope. What does the song ';The Sounds of Silence'; convey about the significance of effects of alienation/isolation?
This doesn't answer the question you ask but adds to the theme and indirectly offers an answer by using another song. For some extra points (I hope), take in the following, lesser-known song written by Paul Simon. It belongs with ';The Sounds of Silence'; (and ';Richard Cory.';)
A Most Peculiar Man (P. Simon)
He was a most peculiar man.
That's what Mrs. Riordan said and she should know;
She lived upstairs from him
She said he was a most peculiar man.
He was a most peculiar man.
He lived all alone within a house,
Within a room, within himself,
A most peculiar man.
He had no friends, he seldom spoke
And no one in turn ever spoke to him,
'Cause he wasn't friendly and he didn't care
And he wasn't like them.
Oh, no! he was a most peculiar man.
He died last Saturday.
He turned on the gas and he went to sleep
With the windows closed so he'd never wake up
To his silent world and his tiny room;
And Mrs. Riordan says he has a brother somewhere
Who should be notified soon.
And all the people said, ';What a shame that he's dead,
But wasn't he a most peculiar man?';What does the song ';The Sounds of Silence'; convey about the significance of effects of alienation/isolation?
omg I had to do this question when I was in the 7th grade, I am 52 years old now!!
I recall something about how you can have sounds all around you but hear nothing when you are lonely...hey it has been too long sorry
People hearing without listening. It si fairly straightforward.
The words of the prophets, however poses the question ';Are we listening to the right people?'; Of course, it's Paul Simon so it could all just be about his Napolean Complex.
What did he do with Edie anyway, I loved her.
It basically means that it is a good thing to some and a punishment to others, depends upon how you look at it and what generation you are from.printer cartridge

What is the role of diethyldithiocarbamic acid in Dna isolation?
It competes with phenolase for copper ions; thiol reduces quinones; and it inhibits dehydrogenase activity. What is the role of diethyldithiocarbamic acid in Dna isolation?
The cacti family is a morphologically heterogeneous group comprising 100 genera and about 1500 species (Hernandez and Barcenas, 1996). With the exception of one genus, all members of this family are native to America (Hernandez and Barcenas, 1996). There are three subfamilies, Opuntioideae, Cactoideae, and Pereskioideae (Gibson and Nobel, 1986). DNA isolation from cacti is notoriously difficult because they contain high amounts of polysaccharides and secondary metabolites which form insoluble complexes with nucleic acids during extraction (Guillemaut and Marechal-Drouard, 1992). Like in other groups of plants, the secondary metabolites and polysaccharides in cacti inhibit enzyme action (Porebski et al., 1997). The polysaccharides are visually evident by their viscous, glue-like texture and they make the DNA unmanageable when pipeting and hard to amplify by the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) (Poresbski et al., 1997). We report an easy and inexpensive protocol to isolate DNA from cacti. We used this method to isolate DNA from 85 species (170 individuals) of 39 genera of the subfamilies Pereskioideae, Opuntioidea, and Cactoideae. This procedure is a modification of a protocol described by De la Cruz et al. (1995) for the Cacti family. It requires only a few grams of tissue and does not require destruction of the whole plant to produce high molecular weight genomic DNA. The DNA from this procedure can be amplified consistently by PCR and used for RAPD analysis.

%26gt;isolation involves following steps...
1%26gt;breaking or opening of the cells to expose nucleic acid.
2%26gt;separation of nucleic acid from other cellular component.
3%26gt;recovery of nucleic acid in pure form.
Now to obtain the fregment of DNA containing desired gene
%26gt;specific restriction enzymes are used to cut the DNA at a specific place.

Watching Barney reminds me of when I was really little and I was always happy.
So Barney reminds me of Fingerpainting, Slides, Crayons, Mud, Sippy-Cups and Boogers. Yes, Boogers.

I need a title for my essay about alienation/isolation?
Ok, it's on Great Expectations and I'm writing about the alienation/isolation in it.
Any suggestions? I'm not creative.
THANKS!I need a title for my essay about alienation/isolation?
Ok, you're right those were awful. So's this but in a whole different way, just to mix it up.
How about Home Alone?I need a title for my essay about alienation/isolation?
I could probably help, but it would be easier if you could provide a thesis or something that summarizes what your essay is about (sort of, what's your main point that you're making).
Essays do not require creative titles. They are essays, not creative works. And, therefore do not require any creativity in their titles.
The Isolation Appearing in Great Expectations
An analysis of the themes of alienation and isolation in Charles Dickens' ';Great Expectations';.
You dont need to be creative with names/titles. (Unless your writing a fantasy novel).
Just title it something basic, like ';Great Expectations'; or ';Alienation and Isolation';. Nothing to facny never impresses teachers or whoever your writing for.

How do you think growing up in isolation from cultural influences can affect a child's social behavior? ?
The child might never learn how to act when confronted with those cultures, and may get anxious when placed in that sort of situation. Increasing a child's ability to socialize at a young age will give them some excellent skills as they grow older.
It's impossible not to have cultural influences. The way that the child is raised is his culture. It may not have another language nor ethnic foods, but your home routine and the advice you give will be culture. When the kids went off to college they were traumatized. They had no idea how people behaved. They cannot cope, and have trouble making friends. They all go to the same college, and bought a house, and they all live together. When they get their degree, when they finally get it, they go right back to college and get another one. What is the function of an ice bath in protein precipitation in DNA isolation?
DNA is easily degraded by nucleases (enzymatic proteins), so DNA-protein interactions during DNA isolation must be limited. If the sample is kept on ice, protein activity drops to zero, so even if nucleases are present, they cannot act on and degrade the DNA.
The ice bath is an indirect method for protecting the DNA until you can separate the proteins from the DNA.What is the function of an ice bath in protein precipitation in DNA isolation?
There are three basic steps in a DNA extraction, the details of which may vary depending on the type of sample and any substances that may interfere with the extraction and subsequent analysis.
Break open cells by grinding or sonication, and remove membrane lipids by adding a detergent.
Remove cellular and histone proteins bound to the DNA, by adding a protease, by precipitation with sodium or ammonium acetate, or by using a phenol/chloroform extraction step.
Precipitate DNA in cold ethanol or isopropanol, DNA is insoluble in alcohol and clings together; this step also removes salts.
Smaller DNA molecules may require incubating at lower temperatures for as long as overnight for efficient precipitation.

What are the effects of geographic isolation on the evolution process?
what happens to a species becomes isolated from another? What are the effects of geographic isolation on the evolution process?
A good example, is the isolated continent of Australia...
The Platypus, which has fur, nipples and breastfeeds its young like a mammal, also lays eggs, and has webbed-feet %26amp; a duck's bill like a bird, it lives in %26amp; out of the water, like an amphibian, and finally, the males have a venomous stinger in its hind-quarters, like a reptile! What are the effects of geographic isolation on the evolution process?
Isolation in one form or another is one of the driving forces of natural selection. Most species that become separated into isolated populations find an ecological niche by which the process of mutation and adaptation effects phenotypic traits. Different geographic locations provide different carrying capacities, survival conditions, and challenges. Over time, these isolated populations would likely encounter differing and successful mutations. Several classic examples of isolation's effects on evolution include island dwarfism, biodiversity on Madagascar, and the effects of human interaction and artificial selection on Canis familiaris.
Research the Galapagos Islands. Many species evolved there in isolation from the rest of the world. A species will evolve by adapting to it's environment and all contained within it, isolated or otherwise.
When populations of the same species are isolated, they continue to evolve. They eventually become genetically incompatible and then they are new species by even the most strict definition of species.

What is Hawthorne (The Scarlet Letter) saying about the evils of isolation?
Hester Prynne is forced to be isolated in The Scarlet Letter. This isolation is obviously harsh for a sin she committed with someone else. On the other hand, she is isolated within society. She chooses not to run off into the woods/wilderness. She in fact grows from her isolationism - she raises Pearl and she goes good works for the community.
Dimmesdale on the other hand is not isolated and committed the same sin. Through his own guilt and Chillingworth's influence, he comes forward to the community, which had embraced him.

Why is milk solution heated to 40 degree celcius during isolation of casein?
Isolation and Purification of Casein
Make a dilute solution (approx. 10%) of acetic acid by adding 1 mL glacial (100%) acetic acid to 10 ml
distilled water in 10-mL-Erlenmeyer flask. Mix thoroughly and set aside.
Place 4.0 g of powdered nonfat milk and 10 mL of water into a 50- or 100-mL beaker. Heat on a sand
bath to about 40掳C ( top of sand bath at about 50掳C). Monitor the temperature of the milk solution with
a thermometer.
When the mixture has reached 40掳C, add the dilute acetic acid dropwise to the warm milk. Do not add
all of the dilute acetic acid at one time! Maintain the solution at about 40掳C and after every 5 drops,
stir the solution gently using a small spatula. Using the spatula, push the precipitated casein onto the
side of the beaker so that most of the liquid drains from the solid (you will have to hold it on the side of
the beaker to drain the liquid).
Then transfer the congealed casein to a 20-mL vial in small portions. The casein will stick together and
be hard to transfer if you use large pieces. If any liquid separated from the casein in the vial, use a
Pasteur pipet to transfer the liquid back into the reaction mixture.
Slowly continue the dropwise addition of the 1 mL of dilute acetic acid solution to the beaker to
complete the casein precipitation. Remove as much casein as possible from the beaker and transfer it
to the vial. Avoid adding an excess of acetic acid to the milk solution, as this will cause the lactose in
the milk to hydrolyze to glucose and galactose.
When most of the casein has been removed from the milk solution, add 0.2 g of calcium carbonate to
the milk in the beaker. Stir this mixture for a few minutes and save it for use in the isolation of lactose
below. (The mixture should be used as soon as possible during the current lab period.)
Transfer the casein from the 20 mL vial to a Hirsch suction filter funnel. Draw a vacuum on the casein
for about 5 min to remove as much liquid as possible, pressing the casein with a spatula during this
time. (The liquid contains the albumins and lactose--so a great loss of liquid at this point will result in
decreased yields of these other two components.)
Transfer the casein to a 7- to 10-cm piece of filter paper, fold this over onto the casein, and press gently
to absorb any remaining liquid. Place the solid on a tared watch glass, let air dry until the next lab
period, and weigh. Casein is used to make white glue, so it is important that you don鈥檛 leave it on the
filter paper or it will become glued to it! Calculate the weight percent of casein isolated from the
powdered milk.

What part of alberta do you truck in isolation and have to stay in camps?
WHERE OUT WEST WOULD YOU GO TO DRIVE TRUCK IN ISOLATION AND HAVE TO STAY IN CAMPS?What part of alberta do you truck in isolation and have to stay in camps?
Hey.. It depends what you are hauling.. If you were driving a sump truck, moving a rig, welding truck, etc you may stay in a camp for two weeks at a time.. If you are delivering materials or food, you would always be going back to the cities.. As Alberta is booming there are many trucking jobs that require you to work isolated and stay in camp for awhile.. There are labour laws that limit how long you can stay in camps without days off though.. Many trucking jobs associated with the oil field industry are these types of jobs.. The truckers may drive within the province to the north like Fort MacMurry others may drive between Alberta and northern British Columbia.. These jobs could be found most likely out of the Edmonton or Calgary areas.. Hope I helped :).What part of alberta do you truck in isolation and have to stay in camps?
All that area of northern Alberta for sure. There are numerous outfits operating out of camps. Look for places such as Peace River, Grande Prairie, Fort McMurray, High Level, etc. There are similar areas in northern British Columbia. Here is one link to jobs and one to a map of the area. Best of luck with your plans.
Fort MacMurray, as has been said, or Grande Prairie are two bases for that...my brother-in-law works out of the camps sometimes...most of the time they can live in town, though. Depends on the job.
When out working in the bush, they have to take a guy with a rifle with them just in case any bears attempt to come for a visit...

Fort McMurry in northern Alberta. It's about as cold and isolated as it can get and you have to live in company camps as there is not enough accomodation in the town. You can make great money up there but don't count on doing drugs or drinking or they will ship your sorry butt out so fast you'll never know it happened.

Is it more healing to mourn in isolation or with the support of friends?
Every person grieves in a different way.. some feel very bad when they mourn a loved one but they can't cry.. one can't force tears..they will flow when the right time is there.. then it's a release of tension. tears help if one can cry one should definitely not suppress it.. and a lot of people do want their best friends or some close family members support in such a time.. but don't want strangers... who don't even care.. others withdraw and need time to be alone.. and first often one is in a state of shock.. so it takes time for it to sink in that the loved one has passed on.. I call it ''crossed Rainbow bridge'' because I do believe that the soul lives on forever'' on a different sphere.. that we are not really dead that dying is not the end of existance really....
Some feel that it was unjust that this person had to pass on, some feel numb with shock.. so all that can happen and others sob and that is really the best way.. but one can't choose.. because we all deal differently with grief.. the person who can cry openly will most likely recover more easily as they let their tension out.. and if they can have the support of their friends.. and want the support of their friends.. it's easier.. if they choose isolation it will cause more procrastination and memories which are sweet and bitter at the same time.. and one feels sad and is all alone but also can't cry yet.. If one has good friends. or even one great friend.. I believe it's easier to have that friend there.. even if one doesn't talk much .. just to have that friend there and a good friend can understand you also by just showing he or she is there.. and by being silent.. until or unless you want to talk.. and it will not be an uncomfortable silence with a close friend but a silence that brings hope...and shows you ''I am here for you..if you need me, let me know'' that is a selfless sign of friendship... Is it more healing to mourn in isolation or with the support of friends?
Depends on the individual. I feel that moderation on both sides of this argument is in order. I feel like you may mourn with people who will give you their sympathies, I but I feel that when you are alone, you meditate and work things out, make sense of things for yourself. So it is good to have people there to make you feel a little better, but in the end you have to heal yourself. Is it more healing to mourn in isolation or with the support of friends?
It depends on your personality. Some find mourning with friends and family more healing and some prefer to do it privately. I would think maybe a little of both.
personally, I think it is, gives you time to think, but I guess it's different for every one.
personally, mourning alone helps because i tend to get very angry. but it all depends on the person.

Do Adults with Learning Disabilities experience social isolation?
Some people with certain disabilities lack the finesse needed in areas of social skills and unfortunately, parents and teachers take for granted that LD children will automatically ';learn'; social skills in the same manner that the rest of the population does. Children with LD often have difficulty understanding the subtle social cues that we use in social situations and that can make them seem ';weird.'; For example, they may be at a loss when introduced to another person....not know what to say or how to make eye contact or even something as simple as properly answering the phone. Social skills is one of my areas of interest and I teach a curriculum that will help my students become productive members of the community, both socially and economically that they can generalize. Social isolation is a direct result of not developing the social skills required that permit some people with LDs to become accepted members of society.Do Adults with Learning Disabilities experience social isolation?
Implicit in your question (perhaps unintentionally) is a faint suggestion that society is somehow responsible for any isolation that occurs. Without expressing any value judgment, I note that a person with disabilities is often less able to interact with society, given the nature of things, and that there is not much that can be done about it. I think life is what a person is willing to make of it, and everyone should do all he or she can, and should be encouraged to do all that he or she reasonably can.Do Adults with Learning Disabilities experience social isolation?
Learning disabled boys, in particular, have difficulty reading body language. However, the social isolation usually disappears after finishing school because it is the academic setting which highlights their problem. In the day-to-day world most fare pretty well.
I have often thought many learning disabled students also have other problems, like bipolar disorder.

Some Persons with Learning Disabilities do experience social isolation and some persons with Learning Disabilities do not experience social isolation.
There are various types of Learning Disabilities. There are some Learning Disabilities that have more of a social stigma than other Learning Disabilities.

Does isolation bring on productivity?
I want to be more productive with my life. I want to get more extraordinary things done. I want to make my life creative. I want to make my life more exciting. I want to make my life more meaningful. I want to achieve success.
If there is one thing that I belive is holding me back, and it is my friends. Don't get me wrong. I LOVE hanging out with my friends and I am not planning on just shutting them out of my life.
I am just wondering that if I will be more productive if I just isolated myself a little bit more.
I don't know, I am just confused about what's right for me or not.Does isolation bring on productivity?
I'm afraid that your idea is good in theory, but probably wrong. You need other people to keep you accountable. This will stimulate you to get more things done. If you become isolated, you will most likely fall into lazyness and waste a lot more time. It can work, but you must be very disciplined, and that is difficult for a lot of people. Good Luck.Does isolation bring on productivity?
I wouldn't suggest completely cutting yourself off from your friends unless they discourage you from bettering yourself, are generally negative influences in your life, or are unsupportive of your goals.
Nevertheless, I've always found that having some ';me time'; is never a bad thing. Doing more things on your own makes you feel more independent and can help clear your mind of daily clutter. Meditation, journaling, communing with nature, are all ways of rejuvenating yourself. It may also help you focus on ways of making your life more creative, exciting, meaningful, and successful.

Can a Man live in isolation?
Can a man live so that is without moving with the society. Can a Man live in isolation?
Society isolates me because I'm no good for others to accept me a peer equal. people tend to laugh at me,then ignore me.Can a Man live in isolation?
I never tried , but i guess its' not possible for a human being to isolate himself from the society . It would be very difficult to live alone . Maybe you can stay for couple of days , but then its impossible to stay isolated from the society .. remember the movie ' Cast Away' ... .. yup ... very very difficult.
A normal everyday person might find it difficult but some people do shun society and deliberately seek isolation on purpose (could be self-realisation/spiritual pursuit), like a Sanyasi/Yogi/Sadhu.
So I would say it is possible!!!
Never...

It would be hard I guess. You wouldn't have any money so you would have to grow your own food.
Complete solitude can drive a man crazy I think. You start talking to yourself and it all goes downhill from there.

What are the reasons for isolation of teen parents in society?
from a sociological point of view, what challenges do to teen parents face that makes them feel isolated away from societyWhat are the reasons for isolation of teen parents in society?
Having a baby as a teenager and taking care of it means you can't go out after school and hang with your friends. You have more home responsibilities and less in common with your prior friends. Yet, you are still in high school and not meeting other young parents who could be your new peer group. Even if you meet them, their stage in life is much different than your stage in life.
If you were 20-somethings and were the first in your group of friends to get married, you would start to be isolated from your single friends, because your stage in life changes. Once you have a baby, you get more isolated from your single friends, and even from other married friends. But it is easier to meet new people in this stage of life.
It is much harder for teenage parents to meet other people that are close in life stages, first because there are so few teenage parents and secondly because they don't have a lot of time usually to go meet people and do things to make new friends. Many don't have a lot of money for going out.
Add to that the social stigma of people who judge young people who 1) had sex without marraige and 2) got pregnant.

I'm looking for a relay to provide electrical isolation?
I'm looking for an (electromechanical) relay to provide electrical isolation between two low voltage circuits (5V and 7.2V) as an alternative to using an opto isolator. I am actually looking ot compare the two on things like cost and size, but I'm not exactly sure which sort of relay to use. Any ideas anyone?I'm looking for a relay to provide electrical isolation?
You could use a reed relay (for instance stock code JH12N from Maplin) which costs 拢1.31. However, I would myself prefer an opto-isolator (Maplin stock code RA57M, cost 57p), as it is smaller, faster, has no moving parts and is cheaper. You can also get dual and quad opto-isolators if you need them.

How does geographic isolation affect a p opulation over time? Explain.?
geographic isolation, also known as sympatric speciation is:
A mode of speciation occurring as a result of a radical change in the genome of a subpopulation, reproductively isolating the subpopulation from the parent population..
soo basically, for example, a mountain could seperate two species.. so then the species on one side of the mountain will mate with eachtoher, and on the otherside theyll do the same.. so there will also be less gene flow.. and it will have a founder effect ( a small change to a small population ) on the species..How does geographic isolation affect a p opulation over time? Explain.?
An isolated population will undergo ';genetic drift';. The isolated population gradually accumulates genetic change distinct from its parent population. Eventually the two will drift so far apart that they would not be able to interbreed were they to be re-introduced to one another. How does geographic isolation affect a p opulation over time? Explain.?
Allopathy is another term for this effect.
When a species portion becomes separated it may evolve characteristics which differ from the parent species. This would especially be true if there was a small population to begin with and one of the founders had a unique trait (extremely tall, for instance) - also known as the founder effect.

soo basically, for example, a mountain could seperate two species.. so then the species on one side of the mountain will mate with eachtoher, and on the otherside theyll do the same.. so there will also be less gene flow.. and it will have a founder effect ( a small change to a small population ) on the species..How does geographic isolation affect a p opulation over time?

Bodybuilding question isolation vs compound movements?
They say that compound movements are best for size and strength yet isolation movements are used for weak point training!
You use more weight in compound movements but its spread over many different muscles where as an isolation movement has less weight but its concentrated on the specific muscle!
My question is if say you just wanted to build a big strong CHEST and HAD to choose either isolation or compound movements would you be better off using dumbbell flies and the Peck deck or the dumbbell and Barbell bench press and why?
Thanks in advance!Bodybuilding question isolation vs compound movements?
Muscles grow from moving weight. You can move much more weight doing compound movements. I have been a competitive bodybuilder for 19 years and I still train with compound movements. I am going to unlock the key to getting a big strong chest.. do squats.. yes.. squats. (along with bench, cleans, deadlifts, military press, bent over rows and pullups)Bodybuilding question isolation vs compound movements?
Peck deck for the chest.
Consider the muscle as a tissue, as you put pressure on the muscle the tissue rips and to repair itself its grows back but doubles in size, it puts a new layer of tissue over the part what was there before, so hense your muscle grows.
Now that you know how the muscle works you will be ale to use this knowlage to your advantage,
you will now find it much easier.printer cartridge

When I read P&IDs I see isolation valves and block valves located throughout? What is the purpose of each?
When does each apply?
Thanks. When I read P%26amp;IDs I see isolation valves and block valves located throughout? What is the purpose of each?
The valves are generally of the same type.
Isolation valves are placed either side of a piece of flowline or a control valve, a piece of equipment ..etc and, as its name implies, to 'Isolate' the section from the process for maintenance.
The isolated section must be drained and depressured and may need purging with air or nitrogen before being handed over to maintenance to be opened up for inspection, repair or renewal of a defective part or section.
A block valve is simply used to temporarily shut off a process until needed again or to shut off a process stream for it to be diverted through another block valve to say, a different pipeline or storage tank...etc.
(The diverting valve must be opened first).
If the closing of any valve results in a section becoming isolated, a safety relief system must be incorporated into the shut-off section particularly a liquid line due to the possibility of heat (even from the sun) causing expansion of the liquid. This can cause a tremendous hydraulic pressure build up for only a few degrees increase. The danger of a line rupture and other damage is great. When I read P%26amp;IDs I see isolation valves and block valves located throughout? What is the purpose of each?

Christians: Why is your religion consistently used as a base for sexual abuse and isolation?
Just wondering why the Christian religion is consistently used to convince people to join cults, and why Christians seem so open to it?
Examples:

Jonestown, Branch Davidians, Fellowship Friends Renaissance, God's River Ministries, Quadratoquintillia, Opstal etc.....
Christians: Why is your religion consistently used as a base for sexual abuse and isolation?
Christianity is the largest religion in the Western world and therefore contains symbolism that has a widespread recognition. It is therefore the natural choice of cover for unscrupulous people the behaviors of whom have nothing whatsoever to do with Jesus or the doctrines he imparted.Christians: Why is your religion consistently used as a base for sexual abuse and isolation?
Scientology, International Society of Krisna Contiousness, Sun Myung Moon, Sri Bagwan Rajneesh, TM, Elizabeth Claire Prophet, are these Christian cults?
Just because you named bible cults doesn't mean there aren't cults that use the Bagavad Gita, Channeling, Anton Lavey's bible, Sun Myung Moon's writings, etc.
Just being fair and balanced.
You are speaking of a minority of Christians. Most are in what is called the ';mainstream'; and are just as appalled by the cults you mention as you yourself are. Besides, as other answerers have mentioned, there are plenty of screwy, offbeat cults that are not Christian groups as well.
Those that are a part of cults such as the Branch Davidians, are NOT Christian! ANY person or number of persons that claim to be Christian, but DO NOT adhere to God's word, but instead, make up their own religion and cult, are NOT Christians! David Koresh was a blasphemer because he claimed to BE Christ - and we all know he was not! It's the easiest thing in the world for people to do is to claim they're 'Christian', but to make up their own form of Christianity and their OWN laws that contradict the bible and/or have nothing at all to do with God's word, are NOT Christian! I have been a born again Christian for nearly 7 years now and never have I ever believed the Koresh or the Jonestown people were Christian! They're actions proved they're NOT!
This is an extremely small amount ot people in the cults you listed considering 80% of americans are of the Christian faith.
You statement that Christianity is consistently used as a base for sexual abuse and isolation is a lie. You are attacking Christianity based on lies!
We were warned in the Scriptures that wolves would enter in, and even during the Apostle's lifetimes it had begun happening.
Clearly, just because someone can speak well and say the right things, this does not mean for certain they are a real believer.
The ONLY way to prevent being taken in by a cult leader, or the heretical teachings, is to know the doctrines of the Bible. Any thing which goes against what the Bible says is NOT correct, and could lead one down the paths those others you named have taken.
Because these types of organizations prey on the needy, Christianity is known for caring for the needy. No one would care to join an Atheist cult, they have no hope to offer. Misuse of the word of God by the godless, is not indicative of Christianity. But of course being realistic would not be big on your list.
You misunderstood. It is not the Christians, it is the sin man that is camouflaged as Christians. You may understand better if I said: ';Wolves in Sheep clothing.'; I will repeat from words of old, God this is in man, would never allow himself to be adorned in wolf clothing. Remember, to make that statement is to judge even me without knowing me.
Why are you only using Christianity as an example? (Long answer if we go that route)
How is Christianity being used as base for sexual abuse and isolation? Where in the article does it say it was condoned? It says critics call it a cult. I am a critic. And a Christian.
This man is not a true follower of God. The Devil is using him. He is using this man as a tool to achieve what it seems he has achieved with you. Keeping you from God.
That's about like saying that all nonbelievers are abusers. That is an exaggeration and unrealistic accusation. If you are going to make accusations, atleast keep it realistic. These examples are just a small percentage of the christian population throughout the world.
I think it is quite obvious why Satanists should try to pose in the clothes of true Christians. That gives them a better chance of deceiving people.
Just to emphasize - true Christians have nothing to do with the actions you mention.
True, people do often us Christianity as a tool to form cults, but overall it is the few that start the cults, and people who are desperate enough to follow these cults that are the problem.
Same reason that Windows is consistently 'used as a base' for developing computer viruses. Because it is very prevalent, widespread and the best.
All religions have the same problems with cultish off-shoots, especially Islam. So do practical disciplines like medicine, art, and psychology. WC Fields said,';There's a sucker born every minute!';
Where in the world did you hear that? I have been a Christian all my life and have never, ever heard of such a thing.
You get corruption in any religion. All people will be judged in the end. Dont set your standards to be like any pastor or priest, but set them to be like Jesus Christ. and God bless u

because ';i love the lord'; is a good cover for them.
There have been times in the Christian church where those who have claimed to follow Christ have done horrible things. They have done these things not because Christ teaches them to, but because they have not listened to the word of God.
this does not mean that Christianity is false anymore than the police force is false because one or two cops did bad things in the name of the law. Instead of looking at the two cops, the whole of the police force, its goals, other cops, and its history of sacrifice and protection must be examined as well. The same as Christianity. It has a great history of helping countless people, establishing orphanages, building shelters, helping famine ravaged countries, and seeking to aid the downtrodden.
If anyone wishes to condemn Christianity because of the failures of its members, then will they also look at its successes and approve of Christianity? It would only be fair to look at the whole of Christian history and more importantly at what the Bible actually teaches, in particular the New Testament, from which Christianity is derived.
Believe in Christianity because Jesus Christ claimed to be God in flesh, died for our sins, rose from the dead, and has given us the New Testament. Believe in Jesus because He performed miracles in front of eyewitnesses and He said that He was the way the truth in a life (John 14:6). Believe Christianity because of who Jesus is, not because of what some so called Christians did in error.
In addition, These Indivdules Like Jone, Koresh, ect. are actually foretold By Jesus.
Mat 24:11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.
Mat 24:23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here [is] Christ, or there; believe [it] not.
Mat 24:24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if [it were] possible, they shall deceive the very elect.
Mat 24:25 Behold, I have told you before.
Now, If you still disgree and or Thumbs Down this, Then You didn't ask the question with an Objective Mind seeking answers like a superior person, But seek to attack out of hatred and Bias and a need to create conflict.

Some foods didn;t have good dna isolation, others did, what could be an explanation for this?
DNA is in the nucleus. Some food like wheat flour contains mainly starch, and is so a poor source for DNA.Some foods didn;t have good dna isolation, others did, what could be an explanation for this?
My guess would be if you heated the food beforehand. That would greatly reduce the amount of DNA isolated. Other differences could be between meat and plant foods, due to differences in cell types and the cell wall around plant cells.

I got a pair of Sennheiser 280's a few months ago and they isolate very well. Both keeping outside noise from getting in and keeping the sound of what I'm playing from bothering anyone else. I had a set of Sony MDR-CD570's and the Sennheiser 280's are kicking them for isolation and sound quality. Basically, one is passive noise cancellation and the other is active. I actually own a set of 280s and I can't really hear anything once sound starts playing, but never really owned an ANC7.

North Korea people live in virtual isolation from the outside world, how about their living?
who give them money,food,etc????
poor people...North Korea people live in virtual isolation from the outside world, how about their living?
As you (should have) learned with Russia after the Soviet Union collapsed, we cannot *give* people a democratic form of government.
In order for a people to appreciate freedom they have to earn it themselves. We here in America have been ruled by a powerful government for so long that we've collectively forgotten this simple truth.
The people of North Korea, like the people of the USA, will have to live under the yoke of tyranny until THEY decide they've had enough.
Edit: Only those people who have never lived under Communism/collectivism or had any relatives who lived under that particular type of regime would tout the ';benefits'; of such a system. Suffering is no less painful with the knowledge that almost everyone else is suffering equally.North Korea people live in virtual isolation from the outside world, how about their living?
It depends on where they are in society.
The ones who work in tourism or for the government are well-cared for. Others probably have to fend for themselves. They're kept isolated from the world, and the world is kept away from them.
When I visited North Korea, the only people we saw were the tour guides and the people who worked in the hotel and complex. They all looked pretty good (cute, wearing nice little uniforms, cheerful, etc). It was pretty hard to see anyone else. There are big chain-link fences with barbed wire across the top along most roads. We saw some people doing laundry in the river several hundred yards up, and the tops of houses.
I don't think anyone is starving to death or totally homeless. I am reasonably sure that everyone is kept alive at least, whether by the government or their relatives/community I can't say.
One of the benefits of communism and socialism is that people don't slip through the cracks like they do in capitalism. You have less of a chance of making it to the top of the socioeconomic totem pole, yes. But you also aren't going to wind up losing everything if you hit a bad spot. There's a safety net.
I'm also going to guess that North Korea has a more communistic culture (as opposed to individualistic... I'm not talking economics anymore). That is, people are more likely to take responsibility for one another. The group is more important than the individual. Rather than one person trying to rise above, it's important to keep everyone afloat. It's common in Eastern cultures.
Unfortunately, we can't save the world.printer cartridge

Are you living in relative isolation?
Are you pleased by the isolation or troubled by it? How much isolation is too much? When does isolation cross the line into loneliness? Are you living in relative isolation?
Being the introvert that I am, I crave time spent alone, utterly alone. Of course moderation is always the key element to avoiding loneliness. It sometimes is too easy to make everyone go away by not responding to them or their requests to go out. It's a lot harder to get them back.
I draw inspiration from the world and then I withdraw into my own personal world and reflect upon it building ideas for my writing. Are you living in relative isolation?
What were those lines from those movies: ';You're the only person you have to spend your whole life with.'; ';Even one hand playing on the piano can be beautiful.'; ';Loneliness is the human condition.'; I guess the message is: the earlier we learn to lean into it, the better for us. So much for the Hollywood help.
I love isolation. It gives me all the time and space for my creative innovations.
';God created man to look away from himself.';
I love isolation,and i feel lonely often.
i find i do tend to isolate alot. but i work hard. when i'm not working i need to catch up on house work. generally i want to just settle down and get grounded. so rare do i go get real social or anything. maybe 2 times a month i will go be social

Is it true, in order to become a great writer, you have to spend many years living in isolation?
No, in fact I would argue that doing so would at the very least make you a WORSE writer (and, at most, it would kill you due to drug overdose, alcohol poisoning, or suicide as many isolated writers tend to fall victim to).
I think it would impede your writing because you really would no longer have material to feed your writing. Even if you aren't writing about your own life, details from the world around you can, and should, manage to seep in. The color of a friend's hair, the pattern of a sweater, an anecdote someone told over dinner-- your life experience helps provide the details that make writing great and realistic.
Go out there and live life!Is it true, in order to become a great writer, you have to spend many years living in isolation?
Hola Minkus... personally, I am able to concentrate better after spending a few hours in isolation... and my writing reflects that. Over the long-term, however, I'm not sure whether isolation fosters genius, because much of what I write is inspired by experiences I've had, which requires past interaction with the ';outside world';. But that's just me. I would suggest reading biographies/autobiographies of the writers/poets you respect most to see what kind of lives they lived. Is it true, in order to become a great writer, you have to spend many years living in isolation?
No. Some writers do that to try and lessen the writers block most writers suffer at some point. I have had writers block, and it sucks! But, it always comes together in the end.
no, at least not for me. I'm 13, and I've written 10 books. I'm thinking of getting one published.
Eh Eh
I think possibly not many years, but great writers do value their solitude...how else can you hear your thoughts? Do your research?
Would you want to spend your life alone? No would be my answer. Great writers have led normal lives too.
No but you have to cut off your ear
You may require a quiet place in which to do your writings. Other than that, your talent will weigh out as to how successful you will be. You need positive contacts in your life to replenish your thoughts. Don't block yourself away. Refresh yourself daily by just being yourself and follow the flow, let God lead your life. Read Psalm 35 to (Plead My Cause) - It is long-winded and quite worthwhile. Remember this, ';If God be for us, who can be against us?'; - Romans 8:31. Peace and God Bless.
No. You just need to be inspired. You can write wherever and whenever you feel like writting.
no
Where did you get THAT idea??? LOL
In order to become a great writer (too strong a word, BTW: No one is GREAT. Each of us are just GOOD at what we do!), you have to do lots of reading into your favorite genre, and then embark on years of dedicated literary experiments known as poems, stories, and novels.
The process takes time and effort.
But if you lived in isolation, you wouldn't KNOW what to write because your mind is deprived of ideas, thoughts, and imagination.
You need to be exposed to the outside world in order to generate good storylines.
James Joyce sure thought so. So did Matthew Arnold. So did Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau.... Poe lived in seclusion because he was an opium addict. Melville lived in seclusion because he couldn't make any money on his writing and was depressed. Twain hated being alone. So did Walt Whitman and Oscar Wilde. Hemingway loved being in the wilderness, hunting and fishing, but he also loved hanging out in bars and going to parties. Fitzgerald loved parties of any kind. Lillian Helman liked seclusion, but found herself constantly surrounded by people so did she really? Marian Robinson built herself a room with padded walls and one door with a lock only she had the key for, so she could be totally alone. Virginia Woolfe wrote that a woman needs only a room of her own, not that a woman needed to be isolated. Emily Dickinson lived in almost total isolation. Elizabeth Barret Browning was kept like a prisoner by her father until she was in her early 40s, when Robert Browning rescued Elizabeth like a knight rescues a princess. They got married but were sadly only together a short time, then Elizabeth died. She wrote during her brief happy years that she loathed isolation. Percey Shelley hated being alone but Mary Shelley wrote that she enjoyed it, but that was after Percy had died and she was left with a bunch of kids and no way to care for them.
So I'd say that as a blanket statement, the answer is no. Give me specifics and that answer might change. Here's a thought, though, if you aren't at least partially isolated how will you find the time to write and the quiet to form your ideas????????
No!
No. You'd just end up miserable and lonely--good material for writing, perhaps, but it's not necessary to ';suffer'; for art. To become a great writer, you have to write and write and write. People think there's some big secret to becoming a great writer, when really all a person needs is discipline and the willingness to practice (and fail along the way, and learn from those mistakes).
No, but it helps.
You can be a writer even if you are ';normal'; there are no law about that, its just most writer (including my self) are really f*cked up.
In order to be a great writer you have to write and write and write and write.
Oh yes, and read a lot of the kind of stuff you want to write.
If you isolate yourself you won't have much to write about.
PF
Why not try it and find out!
Why don't you try it, then write about it %26amp; we'll see?
No. Completely false. You do need some time alone, just to concentrate on the writing, but to be in complete isolation, you'd more than likely go crazy. Best interest would be to continue interaction with the population and use those interactions to write from. That doesn't mean everything you write will be fiction, it just means it will have a sense of reality in it.
No, you don't have to live in isolation, but you may have to find a quiet place to do your work, (like a library or something). To be a writier though, you MUST be a reader. Writers are readers, and readers make leaders, or good ones that is.
Nope. I think that experience WITH people can also make you a great writer.

Could there be a dark side to this life of isolation and devotion of St. Benedict?
Could there be a dark side to this life of isolation and devotion of St. BenedictCould there be a dark side to this life of isolation and devotion of St. Benedict?
Isolation of St. Benedict? If we are speaking about the same St. Benedict of Nursia then his life is not one of isolation but one of community. He wrote the most widley used rule for cenobitic monasteries which is by definition a community of monks under a rule and an abbot. Sure there will be dark times and dry times, but the only isolation in a monastery is the self-created one. Not everyone is called to live the religious life and so those that are not called and try it might find it to be a life of isolation. I must say, though, that many monks and nuns love their communities.
It is the eremitic life that is the life of isolation.Could there be a dark side to this life of isolation and devotion of St. Benedict?
life of isolation, is no dark side, but being a religious ignorant is not only dark but also a blank side to this life!!!
Of course there could be. Many so called devout Saints were kind of strange, St Anthony spent most of his life on one leg. Their penances were often extreme to say the least and often consisted of self flaggelation and extended fasts.

Why are antibiotics frequently added to Sabouraud agar for isolation of fungi from clinical samples?
Most fungi are slow growing, at least compared with bacteria. If antibiotics weren't added to the agar, you'd come back the next day to a plate full of bacteria, and not the fungus that you were looking to culture.printer cartridge
Which of the following would most likely cause geographic isolation?
A. volcanic eruption
B. a large tree falling
C. widening of a lake
D. a forest fireWhich of the following would most likely cause geographic isolation?
Widening of a lake would be the most likely, as it is a geographic barrier.
Volcanic eruptions and forest fires would most likely kill off any species rather than isolating, and a tree is not large enough to be a geographic barrier.

Which of the following provides for instant reproductive isolation?
a. polyploidy
b. most geographic barriers such as rivers and mountain belts
c. climate changes
d. behavior changes in females of the speciesWhich of the following provides for instant reproductive isolation?
lol...you just asked this question but here we go again...the most INSTANT reproductive isolation comes when you can't physically get to your mate, this will make it hard for the two of you to reproduce...hope this helps :-D
Sidebar: Polyploidy occurs in some animals, such as goldfish, salmon, and salamanders, but is especially common among ferns and flowering plants (see Hibiscus Rosa-Sinensis), including both wild and cultivated species. So the other responders are wrong polyploidy does not prevent ALL organisms from reproducing. Polyploidism is a mechanism of speciation not reproductive isolation. The answer is B.Which of the following provides for instant reproductive isolation?
a. polyploidy
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyploidy
EDIT:
This is in response to another person on here: I'm not really sure whether your question is asking for Instant GENETIC reproductive isolation or PHYSICAL reproductive isolation. Speciation is caused by GENETIC reproductive isolation, so me and the guy below me may not necessarily be incorrect. If the question is calling for instant GENETIC reproductive isolation, the answer is (a). New plant species have been formed ';INSTANTLY'; via polyploidy. (b), (c) take a LONG period of time for speciation to occur. And (d) is incorrect because behavior changes don't affect the females genes, but rather, a potential mates opportunity to mate with the female. As you can see, this isn't INSTANT REPRODUCTIVE ISOLOATION. So, while polyploidy may not create new species spontaneously in all organisms, it is the best answer.

In the isolation of aspirin, why is vacuum filtration used instead of gravity filtration?
1. Faster filtration.
2. Starting to ';air dry'; the product by removing as much water as possible.

Admittedly I haven't head of her or her politics, but yes decreased social interaction destroys spirits and renders human into so much cattle.
Spiritual force is fortified with communing, socialising and liaising with others. We grow emotionally and mentally as people. Modern life is man attached to computer and tv, constantly absorbing needless information without brain stimulation.
Is it a global initiative to kill individual and racial spirit, and encourage the creation of spiritual robotic like functioning apparatus, as so much industrial work fodder.
Or satans scheme to destroy or debilitate humanity and the race of man....

A thought on fears, if isolation sucks and so do all the known forms of connecting with people, what's left?
Yeah, i get that talking in here is a form of connecting with others, but it also isn't for it's people one never sees nor has any attachments too.
Does a line like that imply a state of already giving up or a frustration with the options out there on connecting with others.
If it's a choice between the lesser of two evils and one tries it and is replused by it, what then (even if one's tried the professional routes too).
As said, just a thought, for else is out there for the isolated to have?A thought on fears, if isolation sucks and so do all the known forms of connecting with people, what's left?
Not too muchA thought on fears, if isolation sucks and so do all the known forms of connecting with people, what's left?
I think that the goal is not to force connections in any way. Don't take them so seriously. I come in here to ask and answer questions, not necessarily to connect but to anonymously and objectively share things with people in order to help and be helped. But it ends there. If you don't feel compelled to, there's no need to go out and force connections with people but to let it happen naturally within your daily life.

What are the scientific processes to do with Stem Cell extraction/isolation etc?
The quality and quantity of the stem cells contained in the collected bone marrow are tested in the laboratories. First, the stem cells are isolated. Then a chromatographical procedure is used to separate them from the red and white blood corpuscles and plasma. The sample is tested under sterile conditions so that the stem cells which will be administered to the patient cannot be contaminated with viruses, bacteria or fungi. The sample is also tested for the presence of viral markers such as HIV, hepatitis B and C and cytomegalia. The entire process is documented and the concentrated stem cells are not released for administration until all quality criteria have been satisfied.
The cleaned stem cells are counted and vitality checks are made. If there are enough vital stem cells, i.e. more than two million CD34+ cells with over 80 percent vitality, the stem cell concentrate is approved for patient administration. The cells are stored in liquid nitrogen at -196 degrees Celsius until it is time for them to be used. What are the scientific processes to do with Stem Cell extraction/isolation etc?
as far as i know, only really two viable methods of extraction, stem cells are formed in your bone marrow, or in a fetus. Take it out with a needle, and keep the stem cells isolated or separate so that they remain stem cells. all cells 'stem' from stem cells, and later branch off into different variations (ie organs, blood, making you, etc)printer cartridge

How did Japan's isolation affect its feudal system?
Samurai dominated Japan instituted the practice of isolationism in 1600 in order to perpetuate its feudal system, which was the basis of power for the Samurai.
What the Samurai could not forsee was that within 200 years in Japan a new economic class began to emerge, and become more powerful and therefore relevant to the Emporer, and that was the merchant class.
The merchant class, with its ability to make and handle large quantities of money, slowly over a two hundred years period began to undermine the power of the Samurai and by 1868 demonstrated by its national influence on the political scene in Japan that the Samurai were redundant. In 1868 the Meiji Government outlawed the Samurai class, opened its doors to the world, and began a quick modernization program.
Essentially the 200 year period of isolation foisted on Japan by the Samurai ruling class extended the feudal system longer than in the rest of the world yet did not prevent the Japanese merchant class from overtaking the Samurai as more important for the Japanese infrastructure.
All of a sudden a Saki merchant or a Beer brewer was richer than a Samurai Lord and was able to gain more influence in the Emporer's court and in Japanese politics. The Samurai simply fell behind and could not or would not catch up.

What is phenotype frequency, sympatric speciation, and postzygotic isolation?
Phenotype frequency:
Do you know what a phenotype is? It's the result of the genotype and environmental influence. In other words, it's the organism's physical characteristics (and some other things). A phenotype could be green eyes, red hair, pale skin, and freckles, or simply green eyes. The phenotype frequency is just how often that phenotype occurs in the population. So if green eyes occur in 5% of the population (note I'm just making up the number), the frequency of the phenotype green eyes is 5% or 0.05.
Sympatric speciation:
Sympatric speciation refers to speciation that occurs within a population in a single location (as opposed to speciation that occurs as the result of geographical isolation). The most frequently observed example of sympatric speciation is polyploidy in plants. In most animals, a complete extra set of chromosomes is generally really bad, but for plants it can be just fine, or even a good thing. When, through random chance, a plant receives a complete extra set of chromosomes (so it now alternates between tetraploid and diploid rather than dipliod and haploid), it can no longer produce fertile offspring with the members of the parent species (the offspring would be triploid, which makes meitosis impossible - if you'd like me to explain this in more detail, just ask). Thus the new tetraploid (4n) plants are a separate species from the original diploid (2n) plants. Becaues the new species arose without a geographical barrier (a mountain range, river, etc. separating the two populations), this is an example of sympatric speciation.
Postzygotic isolation:
For starters, do you know what a zygote is? It's the result of fertilizaition. Post- means after, so postzygotic means after fertilization. I assume you know what isolation means :), so postzygotic isolation is reproductive isolation that occurs after fertlization. Basically, the sperm of one species can successfully combine with the egg of another species, but the resulting zygote will either be inviable (i.e. it will die in the early stages of embryonic development) or grow into an infertile organism. What is phenotype frequency, sympatric speciation, and postzygotic isolation?
phenotype frequency is how many individuals in a population have a specific phenotype (physical characteristics pertaining to a given cell locus or linked cell loci)
for example if the phenotype is being tall, how many tall people do you have in the group you are studying.
sympatric speciation

Why did Korea pursue a policy of isolation?
I won't give you a complete answer. I will say that you should broaden your question a bit. Korea was not alone in NE Asia trying to keep out outsiders. Japan was isolated as a matter of policy from Westerners from about the time of the institution of the Tokugawa Shogunate. It feared being taken over, with Western Catholic missionaries being seen by the Japanese as a dangerous foreign presence. The government of Japan also feared the Japanese converts to Catholicism. Korea was similar to Japan in its attitude towards foreigners, but more so. The Korean elites' foreign policy was to 1. Placate China 2. Conduct very tightly controlled trade with Japan (through Tsushima)[END] for many years during the Yi Dynasty. The Chinese also tried to keep foreign contacts to a minimum---especially the Ming. The Mongols, Yuan Dynasty, were much more open to foreign contacts than the native Chinese, the Han, were. What I want to say, is that ALL three NE Asian countries shared a very similar isolating impulse, and narrowing your ';intelligible unit'; down to merely Korea will lead you into making some warped conclusions---all fiery Korean nationalists to the contrary, NE Asian history should be studied as a unit. Why did Korea pursue a policy of isolation?
Historically Korea has been isolated from the rest of East Asia by water and mountains. Korea has also prided itself on being fiercely independent. While allowing cultural exchanges with China and Japan, Korea has fought hard to maintain its political sovereignty for thousands of years. So, really, the policy of isolation has a lot to do with how Korea formed geographically apart from the rest of East Asia.

Belly Dancing Isolation Moves?
I am doing a beginners belly dancing course. Are there any exercises etc to help me with learning to isolate my hips and shoulders? Also what can i go to improve my flexibility and grace when dancing?Belly Dancing Isolation Moves?
The best thing is to practice the movement, and really focus on doing it correctly. One way to learn to focus on upper body isolations can be to sit while practicing them. You can't move your lower body while sitting.
A couple of the best sites for information on belly dance are -
http://www.shira.net/
http://www.middleeasterndance.net/
Both sites have information about doing movements, as well as lots of other very useful information.
You might want to do some pilates since it helps strengthen your core and improves your flexibility and grace. Most dancers I know do some pilates and/or yoga in their workouts.Belly Dancing Isolation Moves?
I agree with J'naii that sitting can help to isolate on the upper body. You might also want to find some good, slow music, that allows you to do four counts of each of these combos till the music ends: hip rolls, and then shoulder rolls, and then reverse sides; and then hip slides, and then shoulder slides, and then reverse sides; hip drops, chest pops, then body roll down to a resting position, and then start the cycle again.
This is a simple drill, which can help you isolate, and to get your brain into the mode of muscle movement that allows you to isolate. I hope this helps . . .

Why are cold buffers used during isolation and centrifugation carried out at cold temperatures?
To prevent degradation. Enzymes that would degrade your sample are slowed down at low temperatures.

maybe you should just leave them alone. they might be going through a hard time and want to be alone and work it out themselves. it probably wouldn't hurt if u let them know your their if they need you, but if they don't want your help, theres not much you can do.Isolation and loneliness are feeling common to most people at one time or another. First of all you should try to understand how they feel. That way you can speak the same language.
You may feel lonely when:
you're alone and you don't feel you have a choice not to be;
you feel that you're lacking attachments you had in the past;
you are facing changes in your life--a new school, town, job, or other changes;
you feel there's no one in your life with whom you can share your feelings and experiences;
your self-perceptions are that you're unacceptable, unlovable, not worthwhile even if others don't share those perceptions.
Bring him/her hot soup and say I love you and then go away.

Isolation and alienatien in samuel beckett's work?
Take your pick, I have always felt Beckett's work is very difficult to comprehend.

How do you deal with isolation that comes with divrorce?
I am not being isolated by family but, I have a best friend who is married to my stb exes best friend. I no longer feel comfortable talking to her about what is going on. She tries to be there and calls to ask how I'm doing and if I want to talk and I want to talk I just cannot talk to her about this. I really want to maintain the friendship but, want to make some friends and meet new people. How do you deal with isolation that comes with divrorce?
You shoudl be extremely happy she cares enough to call and ask about you. Don't feel obligated to tell her your troubles, but certainly you should chat with her normally about ';stuff';.
Here's how to meet people and make some new friends:
1. Groom immaculately
2. Dress nicely
3. Spend an hour a day in the library
4. Spend an hour a day at the gym
5. Volunteer a few hours a week for a worthy cause
6. Help someone every day
7.Go to Church
8.Invite your friends to Church
9.Take group dance lessons
10.SMILE
Good LuckHow do you deal with isolation that comes with divrorce?
the isolation you feel is only going to be as bad as you make it. I know this is easier said than done but do whatever it takes to make new friends. Talk and meet as many people as possible even if you cant get out and meet them in person then maybe you need to e-mail or chat with some folks kinda like your doing with this questions and answers on yaho to keep contact with people. Some you will like and agree with some you won't but hey at least your interacting.

Isolation of pain problem with my Husky?
Sully is coming on his last day of taking Cephalexin, 500mg 2/day, due to an infection he got on his front right leg. It was generated from him opening a skin tag he had. Despite Sully doing much better from now, in the last 3 days he has started to have a painful cry when he has been laying and then tries to move. It isn't each time, and I can't seem to isolate where it's coming from. It could be the start of Spondylosis, since his sister, that i own also, has it. Please help.Isolation of pain problem with my Husky?
It's possible that he is developing spondylosis.. You should take him to the vet.

Evolution question. If you put a small group of people in Isolation and they multiply for about 50,000 years?
but you make them, for example, swim 20 hours a day and they continue this habit for generations after generations and remain isolated from the outside world...would they eventually evolve into some kind aquatic beings so to speak? Would that create genetic mutations and turn them into something else? I know this sounds very ridiculous but I like science a lot and I've always been curious about these things.Evolution question. If you put a small group of people in Isolation and they multiply for about 50,000 years?
Evolution can be defined as a genetic change in a population overtime. Fitness is the ability of an organism to produce offspring. A mutation is any change in the genetic material, DNA.
The act of swimming itself does not cause a genetic change. So if you swam everyday you would not develop webbed fingers and gills.
You would expect that some of the individuals in your isolated population would be better swimmers than others. Why? Some would swim better because of genetic variations in the human population.
If being a better swimmer gave an individual a fitness advantage, then they would produce more offspring. As a result, each successive generation would accumulate genes that improved swimming.
Additionally, if a mutation provided a fitness advantage then that genetic change would be passed on to future generations. However, because evolution is without guidance, after 50,000 years what these humans would look like is a mystery.Evolution question. If you put a small group of people in Isolation and they multiply for about 50,000 years?
In only 50,000 years, the change would be very small. Most likely they would just evolve slightly bigger, webbed hands and the same with feet. They would also probably develop better lung capacity and other features that would be advantages. If you gave them 1 million years, you would probably end up with a new species very similar to humans. Given 50 million years, you would most definitely end up with a very unique, aquatic species.
What you are suggesting is the Lamarck theory. It has long since been proved wrong. Lamarck believed that such characteristics which were beneficial could be inherited into the following generations. Like giraffes reaching for high leaves would cause their necks to be longer with each generation. One of the other answerers is quite correct, a lot of non webbed feet people would have to die in order to have an advantage to pass on, by default.
May be you can sprinkle fairy dust while at it so they can all fly.
A very good question, it is no way ridiculous. It spurs the thought. I think your test situation has almost allready been proven as fact.
There is a type of new that lives in caves, they have eyes, but they have no sight, as they have no need for it.
The same species of newt that lives all over the world have eyes that function. So evolution made an adjustment to one section of a species becuase of the enviroment.
I have no idea if the humans would become Aquatic, its possible.
No.. because for evolution to happen the people who don't adapt will have to die so they cant breed.
Example: lets take your example... say these people have to swim in order to get their food... if they don't swim good enough they will starve and die. Thus.. only the good swimmers will live and pass on the good swimming geans to their offspring.
After many, many....very many years like this.. it is safe to say that the people will most likely have larger lungs to hold more air.. and better upper body strength.. but mutations like gills or what not?... no.
Maybe SLIGHTLY webbed feet and hands but only after hundreds of years of this.
The weak swimmers would drown, so you would get better swimmers. People whose skin can better stand up to water better would also have an advantage. If survival was based on a specific task that took swimming skill, not just being in the water, you might see some changes in the shape of the limbs. Expect subtle, not radical changes
I think that your reasoning is slightly off. For example, a giraffe did not grow a long neck in order to reach the high trees. In evolutionary terms, a species will evolve as random traits are born that help in the procreation of the species (make it more successful). If the trait is more successful (helps it survive in a particular habitat, etc.) then it will have more offspring who have these traits, and so on. Putting humans next to water will not make them grow gills and fins simply by being next to water.
I think: only if the ability to swim better is helping them survive. If they had to swim to get food, or escape predators then it would.
Occasionally, people are born with webbed toes and fingers. I've heard that anyway. And I'm not completely sure if it is a genetic mutation, but assume that it is for my example. (And assume that it would make one a better swimmer.) Let's say that this group of people needs to be able to swim well to survive.
If the webbed fingers and toes mutation occurred in the isolated people, it would probably be more likely to be passed on because the people that could swim better to get food or get away from predators would survive more often and pass on the gene to the next generation. The ones that did not have it would be more likely to starve or be eaten before they could pass it on. Think ';survival of the fittest.'; The ones that are best able to survive are ';naturally selected'; and pass on the trait.
But, now say that this mutation occurred in people who were forced to swim 20 hours a day, but were still fed and did not get killed for being poor swimmers. It wouldn't really make a difference because the people without webbed fingers and toes would still survive to pass on their genes. And interbreeding would occur. And the rate of occurrence of webbing would remain the same as it is now. No change in the genetic makeup of the group would take place.
No - the island populations who live reaping the oceans have not adapted in this way.
You example talks about 50,000 years that鈥檚 a great deal of time. Lets see the Eskimo people needed only 2000 years to develop a thick skin much thicker than any other nation, so you will see your people have a thick skin and an oily one that to protect the epidermis from negative effect of long stay in water. The other thing is that they will have shorter but thicker bodies this will be seen in the third or forth generation and even the first one will have more developed upper part of the body as this part of our body is flexible and easy to shape.
The Chukcha natives in Russian Siberia have very high and thick bodies because they used to travel a lot for food their average height is over 6.5鈥?and it took them only abt 1500 years to create this from an European type nation.
What will happen if we take time to pass who knows, they will adapt for sure but this depends also on if the will survive as a small and closed community can be wiped out by such even flu with fever.

Has anyone used an isolation or sensory deprivation tank?
What was it like?
Can you have hallucinations in it (vivid)?
have you ever tried super learning
Has anyone used an isolation or sensory deprivation tank?
i very much wish i could speak from expeience to help answer your question, but im just going off what ive heard.
people who do it sober say its very interesting, very relaxing, and can put you into a trance-like state, the closest thing you can get to drugs without them.
ive heard doing it after smoking some weed is amazing, although i lack the details to describe the experience.
ive never heard of people having hallucinations in the tank, except for people who go into it after smoking exorbinant amounts of weed, or dropping acid or taking shrooms, (have also heard of people doing it on dmt), but give it a try.
sorry, i dont realy know what super learning is.Has anyone used an isolation or sensory deprivation tank?
I have not heard of an isolation or sensory deprivation tank before, but l have been in a flotation tank. I was basically encapsulated in a tank for one hour lying down immersed in warm water. My head lay on a head rest above the water and l listened to peaceful music. It was the most wonderful experience. The hour went so fast and it was like l had gone into a trance state, no visions. Hesitant to do at first, thought l would feel very clastrophobic, but l would do again any day. I think going in with an open mind, with a goal in mind, is definately worth a go. Good Luck!!!
i hope i win this thing

sorry, i dont realy know what super learning is.Has anyone used an isolation or sensory deprivation tank?
I have not heard of an isolation or sensory deprivation tank before, but l have been in a flotation tank. I was basically encapsulated in a tank for one hour lying down immersed in warm water. My head lay on a head rest above the water and l listened to peaceful music. It was the most wonderful experience. The hour went so fast and it was like l had gone into a trance state, no visions. Hesitant to do at first, thought l would feel very clastrophobic, but l would do again any day. I think going in with an open mind, with a goal in mind, is definately worth a go. Good Luck!!!
i hope i win this thing
