How can a person with tourettes overcome the feeling of isolation?

You may feel embarrassed and isolated having tourettes but a great way to overcome that is to just make fun of yourself! That way people aren't so afraid and uptight around you. Plus it's great to make fun of yourself before anyone else has the opportunity to do it and to purposefully hurt you. How can a person with tourettes overcome the feeling of isolation?
Try having them laugh at themselves but not in a way that will put them down even more. Like my therapist says, ';Laugh with them, not at them.';
