The organisms that were seperated geographically can only mate with each other. Therefore, their genes continue to differ until they are two different subspecies, and then eventually two different species. Why does reproduction of geographic isolation increase speciation?
If members of one species are geographically separated, each group has to adapt to its new habitat. The adaptations cause changes in the species that will, eventually, lead to two completely different species that can't breed to produce fertile offspring.
